This speaker has very good output in the mid and low end. 1 speaker can be heard through the entire house with a 100 watt mono amp. The enclose I put it in is ported and kneee high, 12" wide.

I am in the process of getting a small stereo hobby amp with Bluetooth. Since the amp has a separate channel and crossover for attaching a subwoofer, I went to Amazon and found this Goldwood 8" 4ohm subwoofer for a very reasonable price. The subwoofer arrived packed in a box and enclosed in a plastic bag, however there was no padding of the subwoofer at all. No wiring or mounting screws are provided. The speaker cone is 7" in diameter and the speaker frame is 8" in diameter. I recycled some plywood from a previous project to construct a sealed enclosure of about 0.5 cubic foot. I had an old unused Rockford Fosgate 8" speaker grill from a previous project, however the mounting holes for this subwoofer don't line up with the mounting holes in the grill (the grill mounting hole circle is slightly bigger). I ended up top-mounting the grill and bottom-mounting the subwoofer. So far the subwoofer sounds pretty good, I expect the sound to improve as the subwoofer gets broken in. For the price, this is a good deal for an 8" subwoofer.

I found a pair of 1990s JBL bookshelf speakers on a local online marketplace. Like many other 80s/90s speakers, the foam surrounds on the 8" drivers had turned to dust many years ago. While replacing the foam for $15-20 would have been the most economical choice, the paper on the driver was all wavy and misshapen. I didn't feel I could effectively refoam the original drivers in their lumpy condition, so I went to plan B.I found these Goldwoods, which matched the spec of the OE driver, so I popped for them. They were not an exact fit, as they were slightly larger in the mounting hole than the OE driver (not sure if it is that JBL used an atypical diameter driver or if these are atypically larger than the normal 8" driver). I had to open up the mounting hole about 1/4". So it ended up being a bigger project than I had initially envisioned. Just like every project I do!Not only was the speaker marginally larger, but the magnet was significantly larger. These were nice and heavy, and seemed well constructed. What I can say is that after a 30 minute detour in making the opening in the cabinet large enough for these to fit, I am happy with the results. They sound fine, seem pretty well-matched to the tweeters and look great. I'm driving them with a vintage Yamaha CA60 integrated amplifier, which is only 30WPC. I have no trouble driving these to relatively loud volumes and the bass is tight and clear. You aren't going to rattle the house with the deep notes of some hip-hop tracks, but as rock and roll/pop/country music speakers, these 8" drivers are a good match. If you had a powered sub, they would probably sound great..
