I am hoping to use these as folding steps on the mast of my sailing boat. It is not a big boat and the mast is not that big either. When the steps arrived i realised the way they attach to a bike does not make them very suitable for attaching to a mast.That said, I decided the mast section where i wanted to attach the steps might not be a that strong. In a perfect situation, weight on the steps should transfer to the mast in nearly perfect compression - but boats move and the higher up the mast the more movement there is. If I were to form doubler plates of aluminium to rivet to the mast this would make step attachment easier,My plan will have to wait for warmer weather. However, these steps are strong with a non-slip surface. Although they wobble a little in the folded position, when down the steps are quite firm. At a very competitive price they are well worth experimenting with.
